Location: Portsalon, Co. Donegal
Duration: 4hrs
Difficulty: Medium : Grade 3
This Medium grade hillwalk on the Fanad Peninsula, Co. Donegal is a very scenic walk. Following the mountain ridge above the spectacular Ballymacstoker Bay and the village of Portsalon. From the car park above the beach the route climbs across the open hillside, bog and heather to reach the centre of the ridge. Following the ridge we traverse East to West to passing the 2 main summits, retuning to the lakes at the centre of the ridge and retracing the route to the start.
Throughout there are excellent views of Lough Swilly and Malin Head (weather permitting).
This walk is completely unmarked and there are several quite boggy and wet sections on the route so good footwear is essential.
